REPORT ON 105TH ANNUAL OPEN EXHIBITION
From Jim Connolly. Hon.Exhibition Oganising Secretary (Edited)

Given the existing economic gloom, the following statistics supplied by The Victoria Art Gallery are surprisingly encouraging and support my feeling that we are responsible for a very worthwhile enterprise.

Total works entered: 718
Total works accepted: 415
Non-members works accepted: 225
Members work accepted: 190

The 415 works displayed constitute a record for any exhibition held at the Victoria Art Gallery with 72 works sold. Number of visitors totaled 12,876. Here is a random selection of comments from the Visitors' Book:

'Works of international level - should go on tour'

'Very high standard overall, interestingly diverse, hard to choose a favorite'

'Well worth the council tax. Keep VAG free'

'Far too many for the space, distracts from rare and unusual works'

'Refreshing entertaining variety'

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

Can I deliver my work on a
different date to the submission day?

The gallery staff are not permitted to
take in work, as the BSA reception
committee has to check in all
work submitted and that it
has the correct paper work.

Do pictures have to be framed?

In most cases they do. Exceptions
are sometimes allowed if
the picture is 'gallery wrapped'
This must be neat and clean with no
un-tidy edges of paint
showing or canvas tacks visible.
Are there any size restraints?

No, within reason. The gallery does
show off larger works to advantage; sizes of up to 150cm have been
exhibited but bear in mind that
even if a work is accepted there
may not always be room to hang it.
Where do I get a tag if I download
the entrance form?

The tag that hangs over the front
can be a parcel tag or strong
card about 12cm x 8cm.The
catalogue details are taken from this.
When will I receive payment?

As stated in the entry form, payment
can take up to 3 months
after the close of the exhibition.
Are metal frames acceptable?

No, metal frames, perspex, unframed glass, or non-reflective glass will
not be accepted.
Does my work have to be for sale?

Yes, all work must be for sale. If a
work is marked NFS there is usually
a good reason such as
an invited artist or a memorial.
