tim carroll

Studied Fine Art at Leeds University, graduating in 1982.
Member of Bath Society of Artists since 2009.
Lives and works in Swindon, Wiltshire.

Drawing and painting the human figure is one of the great challenges in art.

Accidental effects produced by applying the paint in washes and veils of colour and by the process of scraping back can provide surprising clues for developing the composition.

Although some work is started with only the vaguest plan, I also use a more controlled approach where the design is refined through a series of pencil drawings and the result squared up and transferred to canvas.

My aim is to produce a formally satisfying pictorial composition and I have looked at Celtic knot work, Greek sculpture and ceramics and art from the Italian Renaissance for some of my decorative ideas.
