Artists Statement:
The images I produce are a direct response to the landscapes
I draw of the surrounding area of Bath; they are concerned
with the refinement of colour and image and the creation of
space. I work from charcoal sketches using an unusual mono
print method that combines textile and art processes. The
materials I print on are mainly hand made cotton and rag papers;
I use various textile dyes as the printing medium. The images
are made up of layers of 'one off' prints, creating a saturation
of colour and some unusual surface textures. Through this
combination of processes and materials I am attempting to
communicate something of the experiences I have whilst being
in the local landscape.
Interpreting landscape through my work has been my main focus
since attaining a creative arts honours degree, and textile
design fellowship, at the Bath Spa University.
Previous to my years of study I ran my own textile workshop,
designing and producing hand painted and resist method silk
scarves for the retail and wholesale market.Even
though over the years my work has progressed and diversified
from pure textiles I still find textile qualities integral
to the images I produce.
